Basics of Oral Health
•You are not healthy without good oral health. •Childhood tooth decay hampers growth and cognitive development and makes it difficult for kids to concentrate fully on school work. •Oral conditions in severe cases can debilitate patients and can prevent them from being productive. •Improving the oral health of expectant mothers and providing oral health counseling may reduce the transmission of cavity-causing bacteria from mothers to children, thereby delaying the onset of tooth decay. •Awareness-raising campaigns among both the general population and healthcare professionals separates facts from fiction and sound oral public health education encourages the public to refrain from the injurious custom such as Infant Oral Mutilation (IBYINYO) practices inflicted on infants. •Teeth help to give the face its individual shape and form. •Primary teeth are important for speech development and alphabetization in children
